The definitions of electrolytic capacitor and ceramic chip capacitor are as follows:
Porcelain chip capacitor (as shown in Figure 1) is a capacitor made of ceramic materials as the medium, coated with a layer of metal film on the ceramic surface, and then sintered at high temperature as the electrode. It is usually used in high stability oscillation circuit as circuit, bypass capacitor and padding capacitor.

Electrolytic capacitor (as shown in Figure 2) is a kind of capacitor. The metal foil is the positive pole (aluminum or tantalum). The oxide film (aluminum oxide or tantalum pentoxide) that is close to the metal with the positive pole is the dielectric. The cathode is composed of conductive materials, electrolyte (electrolyte can be liquid or solid) and other materials. Since the electrolyte is the main part of the cathode, the electrolytic capacitor gets its name. At the same time, the positive and negative of the electrolytic capacitor must not be connected incorrectly.
The structure and characteristics of electrolytic capacitor and ceramic chip capacitor are very different! The former has great capacity and low frequency characteristics! The latter is high frequency characteristic without minimum capacity!
Electrolytic capacitors are mostly used in coupling, filtering, decoupling, audio and low-pass circuits! The capacity ranges from a few microf to 0.1 microf!
Ceramic capacitors are used in high-frequency and ultra-high frequency circuits such as oscillation, frequency selection, coupling, feedback, etc! High frequency characteristics of ceramic chip capacitor are very good! Very stable! It is the most commonly used capacitor in high-frequency circuit! The capacity ranges from 0.5 microf to thousands to tens of thousands of microf!
Difference between electrolytic capacitor and ceramic chip capacitor:
The electrolytic capacitor has large capacity, polarity and large equivalent series inductance; Ceramic chip has small capacitance, no polarity and small equivalent series inductance.
Electrolytic capacitors have good low-frequency characteristics and are mostly used in low-frequency circuits; Porcelain chip capacitors have good high-frequency characteristics and are mostly used in high-frequency circuits.
Electrolytic capacitor can filter low-frequency ripple, so it can be used as low-pass filter; Ceramic chip capacitor can filter high-frequency ripple, so it can be used as high pass filter.
Electrolytic capacitors cannot be used in pure AC power circuits; Ceramic chip capacitors can be used in pure AC circuits.
